The topic of Matsumi Ladies Clinic Mita English blog in February is about the Winter Olympics.
In the first part, I create an article about mascots of the Winter Olympics.
The 2022 Winter Olympics were held in China.
Three areas in China; Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou, were hosting more than hundred medal events across 15 sports, including alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, cross-country skiing, curling and figure skating.
The opening and closing ceremonies took place in Beijing.
Yanqing, located 75km northwest of the Chinese capital, hosted sliding events.
At the same time, Zhangjiakou, positioned 180km northwest of Beijing, enjoyed holding ski and snowboarding competitions.
Similar to the Tokyo Olympics, only selected domestic spectators were allowed.
This Olympics featured several new events such as men’s and women’s big air, mixed team aerials, women’s mono bob, mixed team snowboard cross, mixed team short track relay and mixed team ski jumping.
The mascots of the Winter Olympics were very cute.
China introduced two mascots: Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon.
Bing Dwen Dwen, which is created for the Olympics, is a giant panda.
Shuey Rhon Rhon is a Chinese lantern child and the Paralympic mascot.
What does Bing Dwen Dwen mean?
“Bing” is ice symbolizing purity and strength.
“Dwen Dwen” means health, liveliness, cuteness and represents children.
Shuey Rhon Rhon is a red colored lantern.
In China, red represents wealth, fame, and prosperity.
Lanterns are a staple item for the Chinese, particularly for celebrations.
