English blog (45) : Evolution (1)|まつみレディースクリニック|港区・田町・浜松町の産科・婦人科・不妊|女医在籍

The topic of Matsumi Ladies Clinic Mita English blog in December is about evolution.

In the first part, I create an article about the law of evolution, using the evolution of animals as examples.

Have you heard of “Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution”?

Before it emerged in the 19th century, many people still believed that everything in the world appeared all at once.

There are exciting things about the evolution of animals.

The simplest forms of life emerged at least 3.5 billion years ago and have evolved into millions of species alive today.

Many different types of fossils have proved it.

A dinosaur is a classic example.

Evolution is down to DNA.

Superior genes inherited to descendants.

Let’s take horses as an example.

When they appeared, their size was like modern dogs.

Over time they became taller and taller.

Why?

Because “Natural Selection” occurred.

The gene changed in order for survival and reproduction.

Wood frogs living in woodland gained the ability to deceive their enemies by changing their original skin color to brown.

Snakes used to have legs, but the legs gradually disappeared in the process of evolution.

Animals adapt to the environment where they live by changing inner and outer bodies, and behaviors.

Another example is that Dromedary camels living in desert habitats store fat in their humps and drink about 100 liters of water in just 10 minutes.

They have long eyelashes and can control their nostrils shutting and opening so not as to get the sand in.

Toucans living in rainforest habitats have a powerful beak which is a third of its body length.

The bill is light enough to hold a large number of fruits, and it has blood vessels to release heat to keep them cool.

If global warming continues, new types of animal could emerge in the future.

Next article of English blog is all about human evolution.
