The topics of Matsumi Ladies Clinic Mita English blog in January are about health, life and biology associated with the word, “a New Year”.
In the first part, I created an article about a new year’s resolution for leading a healthier life.
I created another article about the endometrium of the uterus, which undergoes a cyclic regeneration with the menstruation, from a medical perspective as the second part.
In this last part, I create an easy reading article about various biological phenomena, which have cyclic regenerations.
The stories range from daily growth in our body to regenerations and changes in insects and plants.
Are you aware of the daily body growth?
Perhaps, many people do not notice that.
However, while healing a wound, you see the regrowth of your new skin.
A baby’s development stands out as it gets big day by day and the hair grow visibly.
We continuously develop physically and psychologically, being influenced by hormonal, genetic and environmental factors.
We grow throughout life by replacing most parts of our body at various paces.
Living cells give rise to new individual cells.
Dead skin cells rise to the surface of a body and refresh it every 2-4 weeks.
Fingernails grow 0.1 mm a day and toenails grow 1 mm every month.
Body hairs grow every day.
Some parts of the body are replaced quickly, but some take much longer.
For example, the liver, known as a detoxifier, is rejuvenated by the constant blood supply, which takes 150-500 days.
Skeletons regrow every 10 years.
Likewise, insects, animals and plants regenerate and change, though the processes are not the same as ours.
Spiders grow legs after one leg break, and deer shed their antlers for replacement.
Leaves changes the colours in autumn, fall off in winter, and in spring, fresh leaves start to bud.
