English blog (47) : Ears and Sound (1)

The topic of Matsumi Ladies Clinic Mita English blog in January is about ears and sound.

In the first part, I create an article about ears.

Have you ever wondered why you can stand upright and walk?

Your ears play an essential role of your balance system along with hearing.

The ear has three parts: inner, middle and outer.

The inner ear is in charge of the balance system, and the middle ear is mainly for hearing.

Have you seen a Buddha’s statue?

Buddha has big ears.

Japanese people often joke about ears, saying “If you have plump earlobes, you will be rich,” based on Japanese superstition.

Japanese mothers sometimes tell their daughters to get married to a man with big earlobes.

However, there are not many young males with earlobes like Buddha.

One of the Seven Gods, Ebisu, has plump earlobes but he is not young.

In general, many elderly seem to have droopy and plump earlobes.

Do our ears grow and get bigger and bigger as we age?

Our ear’s cartilage stops growing, but the ears continue to change shape and size and become more extensive.

The cause is a loss of collagen and elastin, which are components of the skin.

Some people say that the shape and size can tell personality.

Small ears indicate respect, discipline and affection, and thick earlobes mean that you are likely to be emotional.

The medium-sized ear implies that you are an energetic and determined person, and plumped earlobes mean strict.

You are courageous and robust if your ears are sharp.

Next blog is all about hearing.
