English blog (60) : Summer (3)

The topic of Matsumi Ladies Clinic Mita English blog in August is about summer.

In the third part, I create an article about diseases of summer.

Summer excites us, but at the same time it often causes illness.

Excessive heat and intense sunbeams are prone to trigger particular conditions that potentially lead to fatal diseases.

Health management is the key to have a happy summer.

During summer, many people don’t realize about fluid loss from the body.

The humidity and high temperature induce you to sweat more than in other seasons.

Without having plenty of water, you will get dehydrated.

When you feel thirsty all the time, frequently urinate, feel disoriented or have a headache, it is a sign that you are on the verge of dehydration.

Keep in mind to drink enough water to sustain your body healthy.

Similarly, sunstroke, which is potentially lethal, is also a common ailment in summer.

When you stay in the sunshine for a long time, it may hit you.

Especially with a high temperature, like over 40 celsius, it affects your body quickly.

When you feel piercing headache, dizziness, muscle cramps or seizures, you should know that it is a sign of the onset.

To avoid those conditions, wear a hat, intake plenty of liquid and stay inside when the heat is at its peak.

Last but not least, another common disease is food poisoning.

Cold food is delicious in this season, so we tend to eat raw vegetables and fruits a lot.

Likewise, Sushi is also popular in Japan.

However, food that has not been cooked at a high temperature can potentially cause food poisoning.

The summer environment helps spoil the food easily, for example, microorganisms, such as salmonella, multiply quickly in this season.

When you have stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting or fever, it may be food poisoning.

Before eating and cooking, wash your hands and check the food if it has an unpleasant odour or mould.
